About Us

Friends of Lower Haw River State Natural Area (FLOHA) was initially formed in July 2016 as a local chapter of Friends of State Parks, Inc., a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In March 2024, we decided to incorporate as an independent 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation with the new name Friends of Lower Haw River, Inc. Read our Articles of Incorporation.

Vision

We envision a Lower Haw River State Natural Area that is expanded in size, strategically developed, well maintained, and connected to local and regional trail systems.

Mission

The Lower Haw is a special place that we're committed to conserving and enhancing for current enjoyment while creating a legacy for future generations.

What We Do

We provide stewardship, education, and advocacy for the Lower Haw River State Natural Area and the Chatham County segment of the Haw River State Trail, both part of the NC State Parks system.
